Dank Carme Asada fries! But cash only kinda sucks
A little pricey (~$8 a burrito) and cash only, however the portions are large and tasty, the restaurant clean and the made-to-order food was ready fast.
MoreThe people are friendly and the place is clean but the food had nothing to reommend it. I ordered a combo plate with an enchilada and a beef taco. Everything is served in a takeout box. The entire taco was deep fried, tasteless and sitting in a pool of mysterious red liquid. The enchilada was not friend but also tasteless. Both were buried under a mountain of shredded iceberg lettuce and cheese. The refried beans tasted as if they came directly out of the can. The rice was done well. I won't be back.
MoreReally like the food here. It's my comfort spot on long business days and their Carnitas burrito is on point.
MoreGood food fair prices
Usually good but tonight, they totally messed up my order. A 10 minute drive so didn't go back. Check your order before you leave
MoreI enjoyed an excellent taco salad. The fresh-fried tortilla bowl was simply perfect - light and crispy with just the right amount of soft chewiness. It was loaded with Carne asada. Very enjoyable. The lunchtime crowd can create a considerable wait, but it dies out rather abruptly around 12:45, for those who prefer to minimize their delays.
MorePretty much every item across-the-board is several dollars more than other similar Mexican places.. The food is average.. My last 2 taco combo there the tacos were broken in multiple pieces and basically useless... It's the simplest thing to make and if you can't do that right then red flag..Many transplants and new Americans live in the area.. It's like they're ripping off those that don't know any better..boo.
MoreReasonably priced typical Mexican fare. Not fancy but tasty, quick and helpful staff.
MoreI was a little hesitant to choose this place bc of the mixed reviews. I’m vegan and I was concerned that I was going to pay 15 bucks to actually get my burrito filled based on other reviews. Concerned a bit again when I walked in and didn’t see a veggie burrito option, but the women taking my order was so nice and helpful. Told me everything they have, I told them load it up with all the veggies rice and beans, guacamole. I was so happy to see my big FAT veggie burrito, not to mention that it was all so fresh and tasty and didn’t have to pay extra! Highly recommended for plant and meat eaters alike!
MoreThey were closed and I walked there based on advertised times
I'd give Nico's 5 stars if they'd accept debit or credit cards, but having cash on you is worth the excellent All Day breakfast burritos, and shrimp burritos! Everything here is fantastic and VERY reasonably priced!UPDATE TO PREVIOUS REVIEW!Nico's now accepts debit/credit cards!!! So I've changed my review to 5 stars!
MorePros: very clean and smells good. Service was pretty quick for a lunch rush. Cons: Overpriced and no extra sides. Ordered a chimichanga beef burrito and it was just that.. no tortilla chips or even salsa bar or jalepenos on the side. Service was not friendly, and taste was mediocre. Parking was kind of tough during a lunch rush.
MoreDisappointing. I had the California burrito. Didn’t have any flavor. The French fries tasted like mash potatoes and the steak was chewy. Cash only also. Very inconvenient.
MoreGreat socal-mexican food! Tastes delicious and it's made really fast. My go-to local taco shop
MoreI don't know why I went back Nico's? It is close to home and I can walk there. I ordered a bean and cheese burrito which I got charged extra for the cheese and I did get guacamole, understand that costing extra but not $1.50 extra! The beans where very runny, the salsas is like eating hot water, absolutely no flavor, how does this place even make it? They charged my $7.19 for a bean and cheese burrito with guacamole, way over priced, and what food establishment these days does not take credit or ATM cards? Very disappointing and now I know I will not go back, I will drive the extra distance to Porkylands!
MoreThey have pretty good food. I could be mistaken but I feel like they used to use authentic guacamole and sour cream, whereas now their guacamole and sour cream taste diluted or mixed with something else to increase the volume. We've been going there for at least 15 years. I also don't like the fact they are cash only. I have to go to an ATM before going to get my lunch. Their customer service isn't all that impressive, either.
Moreasked for pork chinichanga was given chicken (obvious from both flavor and visually). When I pointed out that this is chicken the cashier insisted it is pork... even though you could clearly see pieces of both white meat and dark meat and white meat tasted like chicken white meat and dark meat tasted like chicken dark meat.
MoreInitially I thought that Nico's was going to be an ok mexican restaurant, but after ordering their carne asada quesadilla I can say that it was delicious. It was one of the best carne asada quesadillas that I have had in the area. I would recommend to anyone, it is worth chrckche out.
MoreBest refried beans in SD
Loved this place and love to support Cash Only places! Strong cash/Dave Ramsey fan and this place is perfect! Debit/cash guy here. Good/avg Mexican food for a good price.
MoreBest Chile verde burrito in town
I am vegan and go there all the time for a simple rice and bean burrito or cheese-less nachos which comes with rice, beans, pico de gallo, lettuce, guacamole, etc. Let me tell you, that rice and bean burrito is simple but SO DELICIOUS. The workers are alway very friendly and the food comes out very quickly. I don't know why their reviews aren't better. All the vegan options are fantastic!
MoreOne of the best burritos in San Diego. Rolled tacos with guacamole ARE the BEST in San Diego.
MoreThey have some excellent burritos here, and I definitely recommend them for this reason. They are cash only, so be prepared, but I don't think I've ever had a bad meal from this location!
MoreLove their breakfast burritos
No flavor... nothing close to the Mexican food.
Tasty torta, went the extra step and butter and toasted the bun. Sucks CASH only!
MoreHate to give places a bad review , but the food was bland ! No flavor at all
Cash only, but excellent food. I recommend the chimichanga.
I came to nicos taco shop despite the horrible reviews. I really wanted to give them a chance. So I went in and order the easiest thing you could think of, a bean and cheese burrito. How can you mess that up right ? Well take a look a this sorry excuse for a burrito. And the taste was bland. If you do eat there the red hot sauce is just hot with no taste and the green one has good flavor and no spice at all so it was good to mix the two together. I will not be coming here again. Low quality and over priced.
MoreComplete rip off! 2x tacos for over $10 and was just a tortilla, chicken and lettuce...nothing else. All their prices are just insane across the board. Food is mediocre at best. With these kind of prices and what they give you, they are basically just having a big laugh at your expense...
MoreIt was nice, but only accepted cash..food pretty good
Excellent service great food The preparer is handled with great standards of health and quality congratulations
MoreThis ain't no King Taco. The food is ridiculously price. For one (just one) fried taquito they charge more than $3. They only have red and green salsa on the side, theres no limes, radishes, onions nothing. This place us not worth going
MoreCash only is definitely inconvenient. Also, the food is not as good as other local taco shops. I’d pick Roberto’s in Del Mar over Nico’s 10 times out of 10. The potatoes here are sub-par.
MoreThe burritos here are mini burritos with an extra large price.. Definitely not coming back... Unless I want to get ripoed off..
MoreWe got the Supreme nachos with guacamole on the side the place was very nice and super clean
MorePrice seem average to me.Orchata water was good.Salsa was okey, spice wise. It's their food quality that needs to be worked on and they would be busy during lunch and after work hours. Their fries are obviously out of a bag and not prepped on site, so they come out to dry and tasteless. The carne asada was also tasteless and bland, needs to be grilled with some fat to give some flavor, at the least. That's all I have from my first visit..
MoreGreat Mx food
Place is clean ,but the food is normal and they just offer 2 sauces (red and green) carrots and pepper are for purchase.
MorePoor food presentation
Yeah don't waste your time. Terrible food. More gristle in taco than meat. High prices.
MoreGood: Food is good, restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly.Bad: Price is high and some ingredients are extra relative to other similar restaurants.
More$10.00 for a Burrito, plus you have to buy Hot Carrots!!! There are better options out there. Go check the next corner...
MoreDelicious Mexican food that's always so fresh made daily . I love their California burritos the carne asada is so tasty and tender served with sour cream potatoe & cheese . The big breakfast burrito is another popular burrito that's sold there a lot which comes with egg bacon and cheese every time I walk to the plaza I can always smell the bacon or the carne asada from the entrance of the plaza which always makes me hungry . The owners and the young lady are always so nice and friendly great costumer service always making you feel welcome
MoreLove this place. The best carne asada. The best salsa. This is hands down my favorite taco shop in SoCal.
MoreTake a big pass on this place! I was on the way to a show and stopped quick for a breakfast burrito to go. I wish I read the reviews, but was driving and so missed it. The burrito was not anything special, but it certainly did not taste bad. Until I got half way through and found the lovely hair in it! Did not even try a refund since it was to go. And on top of that, the hot sauce was not really hot nor did I have much, but it gave me major issues that afternoon.
More$12 for 6 rolled tacos with runny guac and creama
Bad Customer service workers were in back playing and laughing and kept customers waiting. the fries are called super fries and cost 13. it was smaller then a taco shop reg carna asada fries. No condiments & very rude
